New Clinical Evidence Highlights HBOT’s Potential Role in Cognitive Health
Emerging evidence continues to explore the therapeutic potential of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) in neurocognitive health and age-related cognitive decline.
A recent systematic review published in 2024 evaluated multiple clinical studies examining HBOT in patients with Alzheimer’s disease and cognitive impairment.
Researchers observed improvements in several important clinical markers, including:
Cognitive performance scores
Activities of daily living (ADL)
Markers of oxidative stress
Inflammatory cytokine profiles
Overall neurological function
Proposed mechanisms include improved cerebral oxygenation, enhanced neuroplasticity, reduced neuroinflammation, and improved mitochondrial function.
If you’d like to learn more about this case or discuss how HBOT might support other patients, please feel free to reach out.
WHAT IS HBOT?
HBOT (Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy) involves breathing in oxygen pressurized by up to 3 times higher than normal oxygen pressure.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
By providing oxygen under higher pressure, approx 5-10 x more oxygen is dissolved into the plasma and is available to the tissues in the body. Normally courses of 15-20 treatments are required for resolution of the condition
